The way we buy jewellery is evolving. Gone are the days of merely selecting from ready-made pieces on high street or online stores. Today, the trend of jewellery redesign, or upcycling, is revolutionising our approach, turning traditional purchasing on its head by focusing on bespoke, recycled jewellery.
Redesign Jewellery: A Fresh Approach
Remodelling jewellery is about taking existing pieces that may hold sentimental value but are no longer in style, and transforming them into modern, wearable art. Whether it’s an heirloom ring or a broken necklace, upcycling these pieces allows us to preserve their sentimental value while updating their aesthetic.
The Benefits of Recycling Jewellery
Embracing jewellery recycling not only breathes new life into your cherished pieces but also promotes environmental sustainability. By repurposing existing materials, you contribute to reducing the harmful impacts of mining and excessive production.
This process adds a layer of personal history and sentiment to your jewellery, making it uniquely yours. Furthermore, upcycling jewellery supports the bespoke jewellery market, fostering craftsmanship and reducing the prevalence of mass-produced items.
Each remodelled piece of jewellery tells a story, transforming your old jewellery into something that is not only stylish but also filled with personal significance and crafted to suit contemporary tastes without compromising on ethical values. This approach ensures that your beloved items continue to evolve with you, carrying forward the past into a sustainable future.

The Process of Jewellery Redesign: From Old to New
The process of remodelling jewellery involves several detailed steps:
Step 1 – First contact and consultation
In the first stage, we have the consultation, where you get to collaborate directly with the designer to share your vision and discuss potential designs.
As soon as we receive your pieces we place them in their bag with your name in it and store them in our safe. We only bring yours out when it’s time to work on your redesign. This way we keep your pieces separate from our other clients so we only use your materials in your redesign.
Step 2 – Selection and Design
When it’s time to work on your new piece we take a look at everything you’ve sent us and work out whether we need to use everything you’ve sent or whether we can choose just certain pieces. This way we don’t unnecessarily melt pieces we don’t need and we can return them to you for a future project.
Step 3 – Melting and Craftmanship
Once we’ve decided on what pieces to use, we begin the process of removing your gemstones. We do this in various ways – filing claws to loosen stones and bending shanks to pop out the gems.
They’re then placed in a bag and the metal is taken for melting. If your piece is to be handmade, we then melt your metal individually by hand, pouring it into an ingot mould before we mill and shape it.

Step 4 – It’s time to shape!
Shaping can take many forms – milling it into a wire, flattening it into a sheet, filing and bending it into shapes – it all depends on what you’ve asked us to make.
If we’ve agreed on a Computer Aided Design (CAD) we will now print a 3D model of your design in wax before casting it in your precious metal.
Step 5 – Cleaning and Polishing
Once your piece has been built, it’s time to file, clean and polish before we set the gemstones. If you’ve no gems to set, we go straight to hallmarking your piece with the Birmingham Assay Office.
You’re always aware of what’s happening
Throughout this process we will send you progress pics and videos of your redesign (even tagging you in Instagram stories if you follow us) to show you how your new piece is coming along).
Step 6 – Final Payment and Shipping
Once your piece returns from hallmarking, we’ll send you a final image or video along with your invoice. After payment, your jewellery will be meticulously packaged and securely shipped to you via Royal Mail Special Delivery, ensuring it arrives safely and in perfect condition.
The reinvention of your gorgeous new piece of jewellery takes roughly 8 weeks, less if it’s a wedding ring. It may not be as quick as buying a generic piece off the shelf in a shop but it’s a creative experience full of excitement, wonder and expectation. Don’t they say that the best part of something great is in the waiting?
